Ericsson
Icom Technologies successfully completed 1000 Cat 6 points in Ericsson in Dublin. The project, Boole House, was installed during the summer. The installation was required in line with the restructuring of the functionality of the building.
Ericsson is the leading provider to the telecoms world, with communications solutions that combine telecom and Datacom technologies with the freedom of mobility for the user. It simplifies communications for its customers the world over and is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
Ericsson’s building was undergoing a major restructure and as part of this process they needed a brand new infrastructure. Having faced problems with their infrastructure in the past, they wanted to find the right partner and the right solution for their 1000 point installation to ensure the solution they installed met present and future needs.
They approached iCom Technologies Ltd to help them find and install the right solution. Established in 2000, iCom Technologies Ltd is recognised as one of Ireland's leading installers of Structured Cabling Systems, Fibre Optic Networks and Voice and Data Networking Systems. Founded by leading professionals from the voice and data industry, iCom has developed a reputation for excellence in designing, installing, and maintaining leading edge voice and data networking solutions utilising equipment from the world's largest manufacturing companies.
iCom knew that the best product range for Ericsson’s needs was Excel. Excel is a complete, end-to-end networking solution, offering exceptional performance, reliability and support, manufactured to European quality standards and covered by an end to end warranty. The products represent the broadest possible range of easy-to-specify, easy-to-install copper and optical cabling and networking enclosure solutions on the market.
More specifically they chose to install Excel Cat6 UTP LSZH (low smoke zero halogen). Excel Cat6 UTP cable is designed for optimal support of High-Speed data protocols delivering 1 Gbps performance to the workstation. Designed to be quick and easy to install, the cable requires no specialist installation tools and is supplied in reel-ex packaging for fast, snag free installation.
The product had to be installed in a 3 storey building in a Y shape configuration with a centralised telecommunications room.
Prior to the new installation, the infrastructure had been problematic. The previous installation grew over a number of years and combined a number different vendors’ solutions and an amalgamation of designs. In addition to this, the building is old with no raised access flooring and this brought many difficulties of its own. As the building was being completely restructured, it provided an opportunity for Ericsson to gain a properly managed solution that would make for easy MACs (moves, adds and changes), lend itself to better manageability and provide a reliable platform in the future.
iCom through careful planning and in close coordination with the electrical contractor and the main contractor were able to ascertain the best possible routes to address the specifics design considerations of the building and in adherence to a tight controlled and demanding program.
The new infrastructure has provided Ericsson with an easily manageable, centrally controlled structured cabling system that will assist in future MACs and the administration of the system.
Paul Bramble from iCom Technologies Ltd commented, “The Excel Cat6 product was the obvious choice to help Ericsson build a reliable infrastructure that will work with them for years to come. They had seen so many problems with their old solution, and the new product is already saving them time and helping them enormously.”
When Excel products are installed by an Excel Cabling Partner they come with a 25 year warranty and all Excel products are verified by 3rd party test houses, such as Delta. This gives Ericsson the assurance of a high quality, highly reliable system over the long haul.
